Default ETHANOL...$1 per gallon...safe or sorry??

i just stopped by this new gas station after school to pump gas and i just noticed that they had put a 85% Ethanol pump in with 100+ octane for just $1 a gallon. i was just wondering...is this safe for a turbo B18B1? sounds really tempting. would anyone else use it?? price is fairly cheap as well...

I need to research gas mixtures a bit more....

I know you can add Toluene to your gas tank (gas is mostly Toluene anyway). Gas stations have to watch how much they mix in these base petroluems as they can cause problems but are cheap for octane boost.

only if you use 900 cc/min injectors, see my other post.

E85 (85% ethanol and 15% gasoline) would NOT, I repeat, NOT be safe to run in your Honda.

As we all know ethanol/methanol in that high of a percentage would be extremely corrosive to your fuel system.

It is intended to be used in so called "Flex Fuel Vehicles" or "Alternative Fuel Vehicles". These vehicles can burn E85, E15, and straight gasoline.

It is supposed to burn cleaner than gasoline but it only has about 75% of the BTU value (energy content) as compared to 100% gasline.

Public Utilities are required to have a certain percentage of their light fleet vehicles that are FFVs or AFVs. It is more expensive than gas but it is domestically produced (in the mid west US) and minutely (very minutely) reduces our dependence on overseas oil. It is more readily available in the mid-west United States.

If I was you I would not run E85 in your Honda. Trust me on this one.

If an Aquamist is compatible with ethanol/methanol then it would be all right to run it in that manner but do NOT put E85 in your gas tank.

Additionally your ideal mixture with Ethanol is not roughly 14-1 like gasolene, its closer to 7-1. You would have to completely change your system since you have to burn twice as much alcohol (ethanol) as you would gasolene. Plus the issues of fuel system corrosion as was stated by the previous fellow. Put that in your car you will be lucky to get it to run at all and if it did even start it would be dangerously lean. Indy cars run this fuel but their engine management systems are designed and set up to be run with this fuel. And yes ask me how I know that. Found out the hard way in Austria traveling alone on my Harley when I filled up with a high percentage alcohol /gasoline mix just like that, only without knowing it at the time. With full fuel enrichment along with adjusting my idle mixute full rich let me idle down the shoulder to the next fuel station, just barely, and yes I did make it a few miles down the Autobahn before this new fuel made it to my carb. Your engine has to be jetted/set up for this fuel.
