Default Engine Swap Problems

Sup honda techs, I just swapped a 98 honda civic ex automatic engine in my 96 dx hatchback and now when i crank it up it starts but it doesnt sound right...it goes vroom...vroom...vroom...until i turn it off(could i have plug the wires in wrong?)...hope yall understand what im trying to say...and when I step on the gas the engine dies out...all information given is appreciated...

when you mean vroom vroom, do you mean the idle is bouncing up and down. I would also definltly check if you put the plugs in there coresponding locations.

Did you swap an ECU in as well!?!? If not, you need a EX automatic ECU!!

No i havent swap ECU but my mechanic said i could use the my original ECU...could this be whats causing the problem??

DUDE, the EX ECU controls VTEC the DX doesn't have it.......you need more wires with the D16Y8 as well. and a Vtec siloniod (sp?).

That and lack of wiring for the VTEC control. Those are two issues.....it could also be a vaccum line.....but, my money is on the ECU since it was never ment to control a VTEC engine.

It's something inside the throttle body..... I remember this happening to my friend in his civic..
I remember him taking off the TB and tightening some sensor or valve or something inside the TB

I don't remember exactly.. but I remember it was about the size of a quarter and it was round.

Did you plug in the right map sensor? That also causes messed up idles.

Okay its fixed now...the map sensors were on backwards...thanks for the help from all of you.

okay now the problem is that i loose power in high rpm...if i slowly accelerate ill make it to high speed, but if i put the metal to the floor fast the engine gets weak and wants to die out...what could be the problem now guys?

now it is the VTEC......it doesn't turn on and you feel you loose power at 3500-4000 RPM and up right!?!

Yeah I lose power around 3500-4000 rpm...what should i get now?...another ECU?...if i need a different ECU...can i use any other ECU besides 98 EX Vtec ECU?

I am not sure with the D series but you can us any EX ecu and it should be fine.....

You need the Ecu from a 96-98 Civic EX automatic.
