Adding a EX Ecu to a DX Engine
I have a shitty *** DX Automatic ECu Redline is so shitty it's 6500, i am planing to drop in a EX head and do a 5 speed swap, but for now, i can get a cheap automatic EX ECU, the same year as my car, i just want to raise the redline, i have a few mods, witch is holding me back with such a shitty redline, for the automatic, The Automatic EX is 7200 I Belive, witch is 700 better, becuase my car pull high end at just 7 psi. If i were to change the ECU, i won't have to wire the vtec, i can just plug it in like a DX, would it thro any codes and give me a cel? Does anyone know?

Re: Adding a EX Ecu to a DX Engine (Quad-Damge)
from what I know.. the ECU will though some codes... because it's missing VTEC wires.. then go into a safety mode and limit the redline at 6,800.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong

It's an automatic single cam, just drive it for its good gas mileage and wait till you do your 5speed conversion.

You're going to get all sorts of vtec codes. It won't throw your car into limp mode, but all those cels will be annoying.
As far as raising your redline to increase your performance, I don't think that would be a very good idea with a stock motor (i.e., no cams, no valve springs, no retainers, the kind of things that would allow you to rev higher).
I wouldn't do it, there will probably be some adverse effects on your car.

Re: Adding a EX Ecu to a DX Engine (fowleryo)
DO NOT DO IT!!!!!
Car WILL run like ****.
you WILL NOT redline at 7200; there will be a rev limiter on account of the missing vtec solenoid and other misc. vtec parts
you're new redline will be 5000 , safety mode is a biiatch!!
Car will throw all sorts of CODES on account of what I already stated.
I only recommend doing this if you add a y8 head along with it, along with the various vtec parts.
BTW ----- just wait until you do the auto to 5 speed swap. if you buy an automatic ecu now, after the swap you'll have to get another MANUAL ecu unless you want to throw code 70
code 70 is from the auto transaxle...... auto tranny has about five more sensors than the manual
P.S. I've done the auto to manual swap, and witnessed the wrong way to "add vtec" to a y7

I might just do the head swap, and 5 speed conversion soon, looking for a cheap and good place to do it at. Cheap and Good are hard to find.

Re: Adding a EX Ecu to a DX Engine (Quad-Damge)
my friend put a ex ecu in his dx and it ran good and was a little faster, but still would not redline any higher it just dropped off and didn't pull any more past 6,500. it had two codes for vtec on. it also sounds funny when it gets into vtec fuel maps, and gives you 10 mph highter top speed (130)

Re: Adding a EX Ecu to a DX Engine (Quad-Damge)
Well, when I put a p28 on my D15b7 it did nothing more than raise the limiter to 6800.
Threw two codes for no vtec. And doesn't do the vtec maps.
Drove perfect, no harm done. On a manual.
Not on an Auto...so I don't know about that.
I did this to gain extra rpm because I went to 20" tall slicks for Autocross.
