Default Engine knocking, but internals look fine.

Ok so my motor was knocking really bad. I thought it was rod slap or a blown bearing. So I ripped it down today and everything looked perfect (pretty much). The only things that I saw that wearing weird were 2 main caps and 1 rod bearing was worn and the rest weren't. The knocking was coming from the furthest cylinder on the drivers side. oil pressure was 27 at idle and close to 80 at WOT.

Main Cap

Another Main Cap

Rod Bearing from the cylinder that was making noise

rod cap from the cylinder that was making noise.

I really don't see anything that would cause the knocking.

Oh heres something else interesting. Below are 2 pics where the water pump goes. In the square/rectangular hole (not where the actual spinning apparatus for the pump goes) you can see scratches, chips that look new. What could have cause these? or do you think it was from when the block was put together back in the day?

nope, wasnt hitting the head. the knock was coming from the bottom end by the crank pulley.

those look like what my bearings looked like. everything spec'd out ok and i put it back together. i think the bearings had warped due to added friction from low oil. i out new bearings in and everything seems fine now.
