I have a 92 gsr. i just got done rebuilding the engine and putting it back in and now the VtAk doesnt kick in. I know the knock sensor was broke (i have a chipped p28), and the fan switch (i think)(sensor on the thermo housing) is bypassed. So i was wondering if this could cause my problem.
so i guess my ? is does the fan switch have to be plugged in to read right temp.
for those yes i have searched and check things periodically for about a month. 1300 miles on the fresh engine. All voltage and connectivity is good.
all help is appreciated.
thanks

Ok i hooked up a oil psi guage to it last night and its reading out all good. 55 at idle(cold) then goes down to about 20 psi(warmed up) then about 50psi at 3k, and 75psi at around 4.5k-5k+.
I dont know what the problem could be. I put the stock computer back in and its does the same thing. It also sometimes has an early rev limiter around 7k to 7.5k
Oil level is perfect, no dents in the pan. Im guessin the pick up next.......
any suggestions........
thanks

i guess i should check that...... i just read someting about that 2day........ thanks for the reminder.... i think that that is most likely the problem cuz i bought the head and kinda just slapped it on...... ha..... hopefully thats the problem...
its weird b/c if i go around a corner where vtec is suppose to be it some times kicks in for the rest of the gear..... And the oil pressure off ther vtec solenoid is only about 35psi.
do you still think that that could be the culprite of my problem.
thanks

its weird cuz itll kick in sometimes while goin around a corner......

so do you have a CEL or not? do you have a ground for the vtec? you don't need a knock sensor if you have a chipped ecu. that switch is the thermostat tempature sending unit

well sense last night when i fixed the oring and dowel pin a cel has come up but every time i try and pull it, it clears the code..... its onlyu at high rmps when the cel is thrown.... im guessin vtec oil pressure..........
and the ground, isnt it wired into the stock harness..... its the og engine still in the og car....

the engine only has a bout 2k on it, and i took the filter out at about a 1k to try that and i was clean as new..... with oil....
i checked the sensor, soleniod, and ground and they check out goood; but that was at like 400miles... so i guess ill check that again..
and yea havent thought about reseting the ecu... hate trying to figure stuff out you never think of the easy ways you always jump to conclusions.
but thanks for the help....

so when the CEL is on you can't hit VTEC? right? if that is the case then u r in limp mode on your ECU. if you still can hit vtec then you more than likely have a CEL that does not relate to vtec. check your code see what it is? i think it has something to do with your knock sensor cause i think obd1 gsr motors don't have knock sensors atleast the first gen gsr motors the second gen does i think. don't hold me to this, but i am pretty sure.

It doesnt hit vtec at all.... but it doesnt throw a code all the time, rarely actually.... but it does have an early rev limit, like sometime 65, 7 or 75.
And the first gen gsr does have a knock sensor, well atleast mine does..... its a b17.
im guessing it the knock sensor to, i just dont have tjhe extra 150 for a new one right now..... so i guess off to the junkyard, or ebay. lol
hopefully thatll fix my problem... if not then i just dont know...
thanks for all the help so far... ill update ina few after the results have come in.

so you have a chipped ecu supposedly. i wasn't sure if i had a chipped ecu it had a sticker and everything the sticker said not to open or i would void my warranty well i said expletive it and opened it. turns out i do have a chipped ecu. but atleast now i know. open your ecu you should have a chip in the back corner that will list your specs, for example (4800 vtec, 8800 redline) and mine said skunk2 on the chip itself. if it says nothing than it is not a chipped ecu.

its chipped, did it myself. but i think the computer is bad. owell it was a free p28. lol
so i have the stock computer in there for now. virgin p61
i think its the knock sensor though; cuz i shoved it on further the other day and it was workin like on and off.
so im waiting till i can find a used one/ or borrow one.
