Default Does a decked block affect my timing?

I had my block decked 15 thousandths (.015). The piston was sitting at .020 in the hole, and now is at .005. Will this affect my timing? I know 15 thousandths is not much but i didn't know if this will throw my cam gears off. Also, will by T belt be loose cuz of this?

any info appreciated. thanks...

15 thou is alot to mill off a block. Your tbelt wont be loose, the tensioner can compensate for that, but it will affect how it lines up. You will probably need to get adj cam gears or a thicker head gasket.

I am getting adj cam gears. how could i set it back to zero? will it be that far off? can i do it myself without a timing light?

I don't want to use a thicker headgasket. the whole reason for this was to bump up the compression to where i wanted it (pistons had a compression range based on deck height)

It gets a little tricky because you have 2 more things to worry about when installing a timing belt. I install the Tbelt on with the cam gears aligned and the crank as close as you can get it like a normal tbelt install. Then spin it and get it tight with the tensioner. Then I would stake the cams with a 5mm dowel or punch, loosen the cam gears and move the crank to TDC. The adj cam gears will end up where they need to be and everything is lined up.

Heres how far mine is off with the cams perfectly aligned. Its off about 3*

Its hard to get it perfect because the TDC lines will never line up like your used to. Even with the adj cam gears adjusted perfectly, the lines on the outer cam gears still wont line up together when the crank is at TDC. Its a PITA.

that is a very interesting solution. The above technique will really solve my decked block / timing issue? I see how yours is in the pic. is that with a decked block or milled head?

all of this is being done in my garage, on an engine stand. So i have space and time etc to get this right.

i'll be using golden eagle cam gears if that matters. They are easy to adjust.

should i expect the cam timing to advance, retard, or a mix of both between the two sides?

Yes, block twice, head once. ~3 thou each time

Both of my cams are retarded -1*

No because by compensating your adj cam gears to align everything at TDC, your dizzy will be inline too.
