Does Advancing the Ignition Cause a Temperature Rise?

I'm playing with the ignition tables of my Zdyne Gold ECU because the B16 program that comes with it is very conservative. My car is running much stronger now that I have advanced the ignition within the tables but it seems to be running hotter. The water temps aren't rising but I sort of sense the engine is hotter.
Is this normal and can I damage the engine? I cannot hear it detonating.
Thanks!

Advancing the timing will cause it to run leaner, thus hotter, so you are correct. Running higher octane fuel, bumping up fuel pressure, using toluene, etc can help keep it from detonating.

Acutally I hear the opposite may times. Retarding the timing tends to cause the motor to run hot .

Retarding the timing will cause it to run richer, thus running cooler. It's easy to show with a 4 gas analyzer, just check the NOX and make adjustments.

rich = cooler
lean = hotter
