You will need to get a modified ECU, or in a pinch, pull the VSS input pin to the ECU. But then your Vtec won't come on, so you need to pull the pin to that too.

You could then get a 3 step control module for a MSD 6AL and run Vtec off of that, or like I did, wire Vtec to run all the time. Idle is kind of lumpy, but that is not what I was concerned about, I didn't want to waste $200 of track time without Vtec and limited to 112mph. Without the VSS, my rex was at 135 into turn one at Pacific Raceways (Seattle), talk about fun.

I wouldn't recommend full time Vtec for everyday use.

I run a Autometer Shift Light module to operate VTEC. I tried to wire up the VSS but without success. I like it the way I have it now. Adjustable via pills OR switching to 6 or 8 cylinder.

you can use your vss from your d series tranny. yes, it's cable operated but the ecu gets the signal from the gauge cluster. If you want to use the electronic vss, you will need the EF SiR cluster. I bought all that crap, but I am still running the cable vss with the si cluster.

does hte speedo work? if so cable is in all the way!!!

Code 17 would then mean that it is a problem with the connection between the gauge/cluster???

i used the mechanical VSS out of my 83 Lude with the PR3 ECU OK but i HAD to use a cluster that matched the ECU!!!

or the VSS of your original CRX cluster needs to be hooked upto "B16" (middle connector) on the PR3 ECU

does this help you???
