Difference between LSD's? (i think my cusco i have is for cable)
So i got a smokin deal on a Cusco LSD and now i know why. Douchebag claimed it came from a 92+ hydro,,, when the *** drives a EF w/ a b16 cable trans... So anyhow it came with sealed bearings and a ring gear. So i figured hydro since the sealed bearings. Well i have a open diff from a 96 GSR trans that i had laying around. I pulled the ring gear off the cusco LSD to fit it on the GSR open diff and it was a no go. The ring gear's inner diameter was too small to even fit over the housing of the GSR stock open diff. The bolt pattern is also way different. SO do i have a cusco LSD for a cable trans? Im totally lost as to what LSD this is for so i can sell it and buy a quaife...
PS i got it in hopes that it would fit in my 95 gsr hydro trans...

It came with a ring gear, how can i tell if its a 4.40? PLEASE let me know, this would save me A LOT of headache and time.
I measured specs from my GSR open diff to the Cusco, everything is the same except for the ring gear inner diameter. Makes sense, that if i used a 4.40 cable b16 ring gear. Prolly going to suck trying to locate one of those. Dumb question, but i want to make sure 100% before i pull trans apart. Is the overall diameter of the 4.40 b16 cable ring gear is the same as the stock GSR 4.40 from hydro trans?

according to this site...
http://www.allmotorhonda.com/t...s.htm
Il need a ring gear from a GSR cable or LS cable tranny. b16 cable is a 4.2x which is what i thought it was...

wait...you want to put that cable lsd in your hydro 4.40 gsr trans right? so you use a 4.40 hydro b16 ring. count the teeth or lay it over your gsr ring and compare them. don't remember exactly but off the top of my head, i want to say 66 teeth on the ring.
do this. count the teeth on the cusco lsd.
lets just say 66 for example
66 teeth / 4.40 = 15.0
66 teeth / 4.2666 = 15.468
since it's impossible to have 15.468 teeth, then you know there's no way a 4.2666 final drive has a 66 tooth ring.
or for example, I know that my dx 5th gear is has 26 teeth on the countershaft. Well the ratio is 0.702, so I take 26 and divide by 0.702 and I get 37.037 Well obviously, 37.037 is very close to 37.
I'll try doing 26/37 and see what I get....
0.702702702702702702702702702702702
Which is the actual ratio of 5th gear, it's infinitely long. anyways, you can count the teeth and whatever it is, divide by either
4.266
4.4
4.785
and if you get a whole number or near, then that will tell you what final drive goes on it.

The gear that came on my Cusco has 64 teeth, so that has to be a 4.2 FD ring.
Question now is, do i buy a cable 4.40 FD ring gear or a 4.40 ring gear from a hydro from a b16? The bolt pattern is whats different from my GSR open diff to this cusco based on the comparisson. The kid i got this cusco from laggs in the brain dept. So this LSD might not even be for a cable trans, just trying to find a 4.40 FD ring gear that bolts up to it!

i believe the number of holes (10) is the same on all the diffs. the gsr, i think, is just spaced out farther because of the slightly bigger inner diameter. count the holes on the lsd you have and i'll tell you tomorrow if there should be no difference in a cable ring and a hydro ring (excluding the gsr/itr sized ones).
