Default d16y8

does putting a y8 head on a z6 bottom end really help all that much. i was thinking about doing that and boring out the tb, getting the intake manifold port and polished and throwing like a skunk 2 stage 1 cam on there in a couple of months. should i do this to the z6 or get a y8 head and then do it? thanks for all the help guys. im kinda new to the idea. somebody had suggested it to me and i wanted to find out all the details.

Get the head. I recently did a Y7 bottom with a Y8 Head ad even though the vtec switch is not hooked up, I still can notice a gain. If you dont have much cash to do a DOHC swap then go for it. Otherwise save your money becuase I can promise you, once you experience any DOHC engine your gonna hate the SOHC

if done properly then yes it can help very much. now very much is maybe 20-30 horses (maybe) but again if done prpoerly. that means vtec ecu, new vtec solenoid is recomended, and y8 intake mani and exhaust mani. now there are some dissadvantages because the y8 head has a square combustion chamber your CR will go up, not sure exactly how much but it will go up, thats not the bad part increased CR more hp, but, this will cause the engine to run hotter and that presents a problem with over-heating. now if you go with the vtec ecu instead of a ghetto rpm switch than you will need to have every thing including knock sensor. the p28 ecu is your best bet (0bd1) now if and when you do get a new cam make sure that the clearances all work, you dont want valves hitting pistons! the piston always wins. good luck. stay sohc
