D16y7 with y8 head will it work???
i have a 97 civic ex with the d16y8 engine automatic.... it threw a rod.... i have been looking all over the internet and junkyards in my area. i cant seem to find one in a junkyard and if i do they think it is gold and want $1000 plus bucks for it. i found a couple of d16y7s though, a buddy of mine said i could buy one of those and swap the vtec head, and my big question is will this work and how reliable is it. this car is my daily driver and will see 100+ miles daily. also if it will work what timing belt and head gasket will i need, any help would be great
UPDATE! i have given up on the mini me swap, i cant seem to find enough info about it, so i plan on just putting the d16y7 in it so here is my new question what ecu do i need to run the y7, and again its an automatic
y8 head is bolt on to the y7 block. seriously. you just have to take the knock sensor out of the y8 block and put it on the y7 block, its even threaded for it.
yeah i accidentally found out all the information on the mini me swap when trying to find the ecu, but every page i found said that i had to tap a hole in the block for the knock sensor where the altenator bracket mounts
