Default Has anybody ever put a Y7 head on a Y8 block? Need info! Please Help!

AS the title states...I want to know if anybody has ever put a y7 head on a y8 block? How will it run and will it work? I only ask because I am taking the y8 head from my girl's car and doing a mini me swap on my y7 motor. The thing is...we still want her car to run...so can I put my y7 head on her y8 block? Will it still have VTEC because she will still have her y8 intake manifold and everything minus the head? What will be the hp numbers? We plan on selling the car to her sister that way and I'm just hoping she won't know!

Any info is appreciated!!! So, respond if you know!

-Yes, it will work.

-No, it will not have VTEC.

Change the ECUs and run wires for VTEC.

vtec has to do with the cam, so a y7 on a y8 block will not have vtec, yes a y8 on a y7 block will work and has been done, fairly easy swap to do since there both obd2, your going to need the y8 intake manifold as well, just swap your y7 head and manifold onto the y8 block, and switch ecu's. bottom half of those engines are pretty much the same. your going to have to get the knock sensor from the y8 as well. heres a link on the swap

So what do I need to do to the EX Civic in order to keep the VTEC w/ the Y7 head? I was going to keep the manifold on as I already have my own. Since it's an EX model....it already has an EX ecu..so anything else.

I'm just only taking the head off and using it and on the side using my own Y8 manifold...so just a head swap.

Get rid of the y7 head. Get another y8 head.

Yeah, that's kinda greedy. I understand where you're coming from because my girl has a civic too and it would be so easy to exchange the good in hers for the bad in mine, but I want her car to be solid as possible. You can pick up a complete y8 head pretty cheap and you won't have to worry about having to do twice the work.

Y7 is a non vtec head. you cannot have VTEC work on a Y7 head. Y8 head is VTEC.

That's what I just did I had to I fucked up my Y8 head and this is all I had got it for free but I'm having a couple problems now my rev limiter hits it about 5200to 5500 RPMs and I have a big intake leak in between the head and the intake manifold and I've tried both brand new y7 and Y8 gaskets it still runs pretty decent cruise on the freeway and everything but just not running right can't get rid of the leak Can't Stop on the throttle anyone help me
