Default Cylinder Rust

Block left outside and 1 and 4 cylinder has a nice amount of rust on the cylinder walls. Whats the best way to remove the rust just enough to get the pistons out and the block to the machine shop? It was left out for a month,so you can draw your own picture.

Never actually done this, so you may want to get a different opinion before you try it, but it would seem like you could just sand the rust off if you were going to get the block machined anyway.

When rust forms on metal like so what kind of reaction happens? I know something bad happens.

It can Make Pitted holes, that can go all the way through the cylinder, which in that case no matter how much you bored it, it would still be there, but maybe its just a service rust..

To get the pistons out i would probably spray the **** out of it with a rust penetrant ( somthing good like pb blaster)

Then let it sit and try pounding them out with a dead blow or somthing... then maybe get one of the drill powered cylinder hones from the auto parts store,

my block that i have isnt rusted that bad, but what i usually do to keep the walls from rusting is lube it up with some wd-40. my b series build has come to a halt and i am not able to finish it right now so i just let the block sit in my house in a trash bag. i lubed the cylinder walls with wd40 as well, but id take golden eagle's advice and do what he said

is the block you have a single cam block? possibly a d16y or d16z block?

if it is a single cam block, are you wanting to put vitara pistons in it?
