ok i have a b16 block that i bought that was sleeved... ive had it in my closet for a couple months, and now it is beginning to rust... what do i need to put on it to make it stop??? it has some sort of oil or grease on it when i got it, but now that is worn off!!!! please help me!!!!

how bad is the rust? will it coem off if you light wipe it down with something or is it really on there now and pitting? cover the cylinder walls with assembly lube.

you should take a rag and wipe all the cylinder walls with oil then take and wrap it up in garbage bags to keep it as dry as possible

Just spray some WD-40 on the cylinder walls and the top, clean off the surface rust with a rag, than spray WD-40 again on all parts of the sleeves and you're ready to store that baby for a long time..

Exactly. You want the block covered so that the sleeve can stay smooth and moist. remember, the sleeves are of a ductile iron that oxidizes easily.

u sure that wd40 would work? it is a hydrocarbon and i usually dont recommend that to customers, seeing as how i work at a hardware store and i am there now... thanks for the replies!

WD40 is what I used to store mine. It works fine so don't get your panties in a bunch. Just go to walmart, buy a can or two along with a 30 pack of beer.

You are right but I have never seen any problems arise from using WD-40 on the cylinder walls. I use Royal Purple assembly lube.

ok so i used some wd40 to clean the rust off, then i soaked the sleeves in oil, wrapped the whole block in a plastic bag, and put it away!!!! that should do it...lol, thanks again for the replies!
