Do you know what the process is and what it does?

TIA

I Think your talking about welding the open deck of Honda's blocks to make the cylinder walls stronger. This process should be done by experienced technicians or mechanics since it involves welding in a block gaurd and then shaving off the exess material on top to make it flush with the block.

No, I'm talking about welding combustion chambers, as in cylinder heads. I've heard it's kind of like polishing them, but I'm not sure. Anybody can help me out here??

TIA

Welding a combustion chamber is done in order to decrease its volume, thus raising your compression ratio. You run into problems such as severe warpage, unequal chamber volumes, and seats and guides falling out due to the expansion of the aluminum. You're better off just going to a higher compression ratio piston unless you have lots of time, money, or skill.

wouldn't that create hot spots in the chamber? leading the engine to premature detonation?

It would if you were not going to reshape the chamber. Like I said if you have lots of time, money, or skill it's worth doing. If not, leave well enough alone.

WELDING THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER IS A FAIRLY SIMPLE PROCESS ,WHEN DONE CORRECTLY THERE ARE NO SIDE AFFECTS IVE BEEN WORKING WITH WELDED CHAMBERS FOR YEARS AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY OF THE ISSUES THAT WERE STATED ABOVE .. NOT ONLY DOES IT RAISE COMPRESSION BUT IT ALSO GIVES YOU QUENCH PADS THAT HELP AID AGAINST DETONATION BY TRANSFERRING AIR FUEL MIXTURES TOWARDS THE SPARK PLUG DURING THE COMPRESSION STROKE. BY WELDING A CHAMBER YOU ARE ADDING MORE MATERIAL THUS LOWERING VOLUME OF CHAMBER . BY DOING THAT YOU ARE GIVING THE CHANCE TO UNSHROUD THE VALVES MORE,ADDING THE ABBILITY TO FLOW MORE .. AND IN MOST CASES CAN BE MUCH CHEAPER THAN BUYING FORGED PISTONS... EXAMPLE: FORGE PISTONS $480 PLUS MACHINE SHOP COST AND MISC. PARTS YOU ARE LOOKING AT ABOUT $880 AND THATS IF YOU ARE GOING TO ASSEMBLE THE ENGINE IF NOT ADD ANOTHER 300-500 DEPENDING ON BUILDER. WELDING CHAMBERAND RESHAPING IT RESURFACING IT $350

yep, most reputable head porters will weld the combustion chambers.
its done, as flowzilla sayd to build bigger/better quench pads and also improve the chamber design for example to a cleaver loaf design.
