Default Crazy problem. NEED Advice please.

Hello all, thanks for taking the time to check out my thread.

I have a 93 civic dx. It ran fine all last summer till one day the battery fried/exploded. It spit acid everywhere and shorted out everything, including the fan, causing the motor to overheat. I was able to pull over pretty fast but the damage was already done. When i attempted to turn it back on it ran like ****, sounded terrible and was throwing a code 9. I replaced the battery, head gasket, set the timing, reset the computer and fired it up. It seemed to be running perfect. I drove it about a mile, took it home and turned it off while i ran out to go buy all new bulbs and fuses because when the battery fried, nearly every bulb and a bunch of fuses blew. After replacing that stuff, i re-started it and it was running like **** again and throwing the code again. I followed the service manual trouble shooting guide and the step i left off on was, "replace with a known good ecu." I have the ECU, haven't had a chance to plug it up yet but, before I do that i was wondering if any one else has had a similar issue and what they did to remedy it. I've asked people what they think and most say it's real weird and they haven't heard anything like that before. Any suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading.

I would not plug the new ECU in before checking for shorts.

Check all wiring that may have been damaged by the batt. acid.

I would also pull and test the alt./voltage regulator, batteries do not blow up for no reason. 94

Yea i thought that but besides checking the wiring near the battery for damage i wouldn't know the first place to start looking for shorts. Have any tips?

Reminds me of the scene from My Science Project, where they hook up that weird orb/ball to the car battery. Only way to really be sure, get the pinouts and go through each and every terminal, performing a continuity test...while grabbing the wire harness and giving it the "wiggle test". It may be easier to just replace the harness.

Take alternator to local parts store and put it on their tester. Multimeter is inaccurate. Bad alternator can cause some weird ****.
Also I would get some mass air flow sensor cleaner while at parts store and spray out insides of your sensors and leave them unplugged over night to dry. Mainly hit the alternator plug while off the alternator and your distributor plug or plugs. Before you clean sensors inspect see if therenis acid or oil in them.

Thanks, I'll give that all a try. I also noticed the head unit I have in there gets extremely hot after 15-20 minutes of having the car on. Could a faulty wiring job on that have caused any of these issues or is it normal for a head unit to get really hot?
