Default crank sensor question and timing marks

Okay. I have a 97 EK in which I am running still OBD2a with a y7. I am putting in a b16a2 in it rebuilt with p30 pistons in a couple of days. I was thinking do I still need to hook up the crank sensor for the block in order for the car to start or should I completely exempt this process. I am going to use a jumper harness for now to get to obd2b in order to run my P2T.

Also, when I was sliding over my timing belt today over the tensioner. I pryd up the tensioner just a little bit and the bottom pulley moved it'self to the left a little bit right before the TDC mark, is this okay ? Can I leave it like this or should I put the pulley mark infront of the block mark just a little so when I put the timing belt back on, and pry on it, will it slide right in place ?

If you're running an obd2 ecu then you need the Crank Sensor. If obd1 ecu then no.

Why do you need to pry up your tensioner? With all the cars I've ever worked on, I have not once pryed the tensioner in any way; not even with a coat hanger

didn't wanna move itself up, don't know why. belt was really loose on the front side(long side) from exhaust cam to crank pulley for some odd reason so I just pry'd it a little.

you don't need the crank sensor for the car to start, but it will throw a code unless you do the CKF trick.

Not if he's running an obd1 ecu. I never had it on in my b20vtec when I was running the stock p72 ecu, it still started

OP messaged me about converting to an obd1 ecu. So im assuming thats what he will be running instead of the p2t ecu.
