compression test on motor out of car
would i be able to do a compression test on a motor thats out of the car? so when i go to buy a motor? i might go and pick up a motor, but i dont want to get screwed. thanks
sure if the motor has the trans and starter still attached. you need your compression gauge and a voltage source. if i remember correctly you connect the positive of the battery or jump pak to the post on the starter. then connect the negative to the engine. then to turn the motor over you need to apply voltage from the power source to the starter solenoid (the other thing sticking out of the starter) make sure the motor has oil in it when cranking. another good way to tell if a motor has been taken care of is to look in the oil fill and see if there are any gummy deposits or the like. it should be nice and clean in there if the motor was well taken care of
