Default Cleaning bare block.

The block is very dirty(lots of dirt and oil). Just wondering how should I clean it myself. Should i just use engine degresser and a pressure washer? Also could I just dry it with towels or should I use an air compressor to dry it? Do I need to remove the oil squirters?

is everything removed? I did it with a pressure washer and soapy water.. then make sure you get the bore coated with oil or something to prevent the rust. But on the exterior I used a little steel wheel and some degreaser.

Everything is out, its bare.

93turbo16 did you get it as clean as legendboy's block?

How much does bead blasting usually cost?

What should I coat with oil to prevent rust?

When I wanted to make mine new looking I just cleaned it with a bristle brush and simple green mixed with random degreasers. I got it clean, rinsed it, then painted it with a light coat of aluminum block paint. Looked like a jewel sitting in the garage. This was before honing, as the water may rust the cylinders if left alone too long. You can just spray the walls with lube if it worries you.

Are the cylinder walls the only thing that I should be worried about rusting?

Also what lube should I use? Just some regular motor oil?

Pretty much, everything else is Alum.

Use some WD-40, works fine. It wont really be a big issue unless you are keeping the block for months.

If its getting sleeved to a different bore, then obviously you dont need to worry abotu any sort of rusting. The new sleeves will be perfect.

I used a metal polish, autosol. It worked fine just to get the stains off and restore the orig finish
