Can the outside of your engine block just crack???
Trying to figure out where my oil leak is comming from.. first thought it was the oil filter.. replaced it and still leaks, then I thought it was the oil pressure sender unit which it still could be but I dont see how that would leak.. and now I'm just wondering if maybe there could be like a small eggshell crack on the engine block casing causing it to seep out. The leak is very very slow so thats why i'm thinking this as well.. I checked where the oil filter and pressure sender unit is and i did see some small egg shell like cracks around that area where the leak is but I see those kind of cracks other parts of the block as well so I'm not sure if this is normal or not.. and if it is indeed cracked what the hell makes it crack??? thanks in advance.
maybe its the oil seperator tank on the back of the block thats leaking........
you should see a black can/box stuck to the back of the block beside the oil filter...

yeah someone else suggested I look there too but it wasn't it.. plus that box is located to the right of the block.. my leak is comming from the left.. aside from all this.. has ANYONE ever seen a block leak oil through just some random crack where there shouldn't be one???
I know its not the cam seal cuz if it was it would be leaking from the side not the back and on the distributer side not the powersteering side correct?
I am not sure as to how to check if its the oil pump.. is the oil pump located anywhere near the oil pressure sending unit? The leak is RIGHT there.. where the ledge is on the block where the oil filter sits left of the oil pressure sending unit which leads me to believe its gotta be something there..

i think i know the spot your talking about.....everytime you remove the oil filter the oil leaks onto that "ledge" and it leave a "puddle" of oil there and will slowly leak down making you think you have a oil leak.
after every oil change you should wipe that secton off with a rag.
now if you have done that already and it's still leaking then it might be comeing from the oil filter.
do the B16's have a oil cooler like the B18C does? how about checking that?

I would but I wouldn't want to interfere with your "project"

Yeah you are exactly right about that ledge.. thats where the puddle starts.. I am not sure about the oil cooler thing.. what does it look like? i'll check back there again..
The il cooler sandwiches between the block and the oil filter. If you have one, there will be two hoses connecting to the big water pipe that runs across the back of the block from the water pump to the thermostat housing.
In the following picture, it's at the bottom in the middle... it's not numbered as this isn't exactly the right diagram, but it's got a u-shaped piece of hose numbered "2" connecting to it. It's round (shape of the oil filter) and has two water pipes coming off the top of it like a rabbit ear antenna for a TV.

Ok i dont think i have that oil cooler thing cuz I dont see anything like that in back behind my block.. so if the block just can't crack like I'm thinking or its not the head gasket since there is no white smoke.. where else could it leak from??? any ideas?

Cracked blocks are very rare.
