check engine comes on after about 10 minutes of driving. Once the light comes on vtec wont engage. I checked the code and im getting map sensor and im also getting vtec malfunction. If i replace the map sensor, i assume that will take care of that code...but will it eliminate the vtec malfunction code too??? Also my car has been idleing like ****, even when the check engine light is not on and when i do have vtec...map sensor related??? The car will idle so low that occasionally it will stall when im at a stop...I have a B16 obd1 in my 97ek...Any suggestions, this has been going on for a while now...and when the check engine is on the car runs like a p.o.s...any suggestions?? .....are these problems related? please gimme some help if u can...and please no nonsense posts on this..i dun have time for that...Thanks

 

Well replace the MAP sensor first, clear the codes and report back to us if it's doing anything strange. The MAP sensor measures your air intake and if it's going bad, it will screw up A/F Ratios and all this, throw your car into limp mode and cause all sorts of hell. Vtec codes aren't my shining area so I'm going to go out on the limb anyway and say I bet when you replace that MAP sensor, the Vtec Malfunction code will go away. When your car is in limp mode, it shuts Vtec off and retards the timing among a few other things.

 

thanks.....juss replaced the map sensor wit a brand new one...car runs like a champ, idles like one too....but we'll see as time goes
