Default Car overheating!! any ideas?? please help

hey whats up guys I have a freshly rebuilt motor, head and block, that has about 1000 miles on it. its a 92 gsr b17a with type R cylider head, complete, cams, Type R intake manifold and CTr pistons and CTR throttle body. It has all new gaskets so Im hoping the head gasket is not what is causing the overheating. Anyways Im driving and I see the car start to overheat. I had the thermostat serviced a couple of months ago at the dealer so Im thinkin its not that. I brought it to the dealer and they say that it was a fan relay or something. So I pay for them to fix it. I drive it home and it starts to overheat again. I also notice that my resovouir has started to get full alot. The car will overheat for like a couple of minutes and then back to normal again. Lately another thing that I noticed is that every time I turn on my heater, and it starts blowing cold air the car will overheat. BUt then its like something kicks in and the heater starts blowing out hot air like it should be and the car will go right back down to regular temp. The car has coolant too. I made sure of that. So when the heater blows out cold air the car overheats but when it blows out hot air like it should, the cars temp drops right back to normal. And whys my resovoir keep getting filled with coolant? I cant really tell if my fans are kicking in while Im driving. Sometimes when I pop the hood they dont come on but Im not sure if they do when the car is on the road. Any ideas guys? I dont wanna warp the head or nothing so Im scared to drive it. Any help is always appreciated. Sorry so long

i would just spend $10 and get another thermostat and bleed your cooling system the worst it could be is a head gasket. usually if your reservoir gets full its do to air leaking around your head gasket and pushing the coolant out (or if your block is cracked). but then again it might just be doing the b/c its so hot.

Im hoping that it isnt the head gasket cause the motor is just freshly built. Any other ideas on what it could be? why does the car blow out cold air and overheat ? but then it cools down when the heater functions properly? Any other ideas?

Sounds almost like you have an abundence of air pockets in your cooling system? Where did you get the thermostat serviced at? I would replace it (cheap and easy) and then re-bleed your cooling system? Are you coolant lines hooked up properly? Are they in the right spot? They are meant to be in a specific spot for proper flow!

I got the thermostat serviced like 2 months ago at an Acura dealership. BUt I'll replace it. How do I bleed out my cooling system of air pockets? Thanks guys. would the air pockets make my coolant resovoir fill up??

It could be your fan or the relay not working. My relay doesn't work anymore so I just hook it up to the ignition switch directly.

Check to see if both of your radiator hoses are hot, upper and lower..Stop when the car gets above the middle line on temp gauge, pop the hood, is the fan on? If the fan isn't on then thats the problem. If both hoses aren't hot after driving for a couple of mins then thats another problem.

Check to see if theres any oil in your overflow tank. If there is then thats another problem. If the car runs nice and no oil then in the overflow you can pretty much eliminate the head gasket from being faulty.

The relay was replaced when I brought the car to be serviced the first time for the overheating problem. The dealership said thats what was causing the overheating. BUt when they replaced it, the car was still overheating
