beware when using these things, especially if you crank on them. we had a tough one once where the pitman puller actually squished the bolt end and we had to get a new balljoint pressed in however if they arent stubborn, they work like magic

Also if you really need to remove a ball joint, you can always pop the top one off. The top one is always a little easier to get free. But I would just unbolt the bolt holding the lower control arm on.

What he said, I cant believe it took that many posts before someone esle said it. It should take all of 5 minutes to remove the axle and there no reason to seperate any ball joints this way.

god i know what i pain in the *** this is.... i went through all the tools, the fork, the puller, the big hamer. nothing worked, and i ended up totally ruining the ball joint. what does work for me though, and somebody has already said this, so i will second it, is...
jack up the rotor until there is enough space to wedge a pipe or breaker bar between the l.c.a and whats above it, then drop the rotor... then be prepared to get on the rotor and jump on it. it took me about 2 jumps and POP, that sob flew off.
probably a lot easier if you aren't taking off 11 year old ones that have never been touched....

Re: (seppuku)
i used something like this befor, thing is i mashed my ball joint with it, make sure u keep the nut on if u use one of these, just have it at the very end of the bolt. i had to replace my ball joint because it crushed the end. so now ijust use the pickle fork and repac the balljoint with gresse every time i take the wheels off.
