Default Can't seem to figure out this CEL problem...

Hi Everyone,
Maybe someone here can help me with this question. I have a JDM B18C in my 95 Civic EX and I've been getting this CEL light that comes on after the car's been warmed up and in operating temp. While driving and in gear, I can flick the key off then on and the CEL goes away for a short time before it comes back on. I can also add that the CEL doesn't come on as fast when I have the heat all the way up, though the blower is not blowing. Does anyone know what's going on?

have you checked to see what exact code the ecu is throwing? or do you not know how to do that?

'flicking' the ignition on and off real quick won't solve the check engine light problem.

Sorry, I forgot the mention that I couldn't pull any codes off the ECU. I was just listing all the symptoms of the car, since the ECU wouldn't give me a code.

with you saying that...
This means you're getting a non-blinking check engine light on your idiot panel, it just stays on constantly, right? ....and I suspect you don't know how to m a k e the check engine light blink either, correct?

I tried to make the engine light come on by jumping the connector on the ECU, but the CEL DID NOT BLINK!!! Geez.... which is why I'm so frustrated. And yes, I'm getting a solid CEL that comes on after the car is warmed up.

lol..
ok that's not how you get the check engine light to blink in your 95 civic.
You need to look under the dash on the passenger side, hidden up there you'll see a green rubber block that has 2 plugs embedded into it. Now, you need to go drive you car until the check engine light comes on, then pull to the side of the road -- with the car being on -- don't turn it off -- using a paperclip, jump the small plug which you've pulled from the green block, then watch the check engine light once you jump the plug, it should start blinking.

here's a diagram to help you out..

Sorry, I was ranting. I did use the service check connector... I didn't use a paper clip however. It was a some other tool that my friend supplied...
Anyway I tried it several times, and it still hasn't blinked... I've heard of this happening before to other cars, saying that it was a bad ECU, but I'm not sure this is the case. At times, the CEL light would not come on for months, then it would come on for weeks and then then go off for a while, etc. If it was a bad ECU, I would think that that light would be on all the time...

What ECU do you have? Some ECUs have a flashing led on them and the CEL doesnt blink.

heh yeah pic help explain things better.

well its too bad you have a JDM P72 ecu. With my experiences with them, i found that they SUCK ***. I've reprogramming a couple of them and none of them like any programs have.....not even the Mugen program which works on almost any B & D series VTEC ecu's. The JDM P72 ECU is best left stock , untampered with, un-chipped. You should look into a US P72 if you have the time & $$...

hmmm... I was at the track last year and bumped into someone with the same problem... he said he switched his ecu to the USDM and it was fine... I'm not sure about doing this, since I don't know what the difference is with them and if the performance will suffer, etc. I don't suppose you happen to know?
