cant do timing!!! help!!!!
okay, i am trying to fix my timing, because it is faaaar advanced, but i cant find the pointer on the block. i think mine might have gotten scraped off or something, because there is nothing on my block cover!!! i see the marks on the crank pulley, but i dont know what to line it up with!!! please somebody help. if you have a pic of where the pointer should be, or something that i can line the marks up with, that would help a lot!!!!
You just have to rotate the bottom end until cyl #1 is at TDC, then align the timing marks on your cam gear(s), slip on the timing belt and you're done.
BTW: The easiest way to find TDC is to pull the #1 spark plug and slowly lower a long screwdriver into the cylinder MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HIT THE CYL WALLS then rotate the bottom end until the screwdriver is at the top of its cycle. Bam, TDC.

Yeah, that diagram is the basic idea that I was trying to convey. If you can see the key behind the crankshaft pulley bolt just make sure that is @ 12 o'clock. That will put cyl #1 at TDC.

It's not likely to have gotten the ignition timing reference mark ripped off. The mark is right around 12:30, just above the crank pulley and just below the timing belt tensioner bolt plug.
If it did get sheared off, then you need to get a new lower timing belt cover. I can't think of any way to fabricate and accurately reference a new pointer.
We are talking about ignition timing and not cam timing, right?
