Default Can you change a cyp sensor ???

Hey guys, I am working on a obd1 d16z6 swap in my 91 hatch. My distributor started popping a cyp sensor CEL. So I bought a used distributor off a member on h-t and and it is no good. The bearing is bad, but there is no cel now with this distributor for the cyp sensor, so my question is can I switch them out and if so how?

no i dont believe you can switch out the sensor alone. you'll need a good distributor.

You can dismantle the distributor to replace the guts IF you have another spare distributor that will not fit. It's not very often I hear of those sensors going bad, so check your wiring first.

I successfully transplanted the sensors from a D16Z6 distributor into a B16A distributor case, so I know it can be done, the sensors are somewhat universal.

its possible all the cyp sensor is is a switch activated by a magnet, take it apart and let us know.

I have two spare d16z6 distributors. One is gone but it has a good cyp sensor, the other one the bearing is fine but it has a cyp sensor code, and I have had it apart but am not sure which one is the cyp sensor

Well..
B11---orn3----------CYP
B12---wht-----------CYP

According to obd1 pinouts, so take it apart and figure out where the wires go inside the distributer.

think outside the box a little

when i made this thread, i was asking if I could do it so I would have a good backup distributor. if you are getting this code, more than liklely you need to buy a new distributor
