Default cam timing, forward or back ?

im setting up a n/a d series motor and was wondering which way i should be going in cam timing. forward fho the extra rev's or retard it to get the torque?

My best advice for you is get in the car, drive it, wrench it, drive it, wrench it, and find a comfort zone for what you're intending to do with the car.

I would not mess too much with timing unless you have access to a tuner/dyno. Once you do that, then find a happy medium (like mmuller said) to get the most horsepower AND torque.
