Cam timing and ignition timing
I've searched around and i can't really find the answer to my question. I'm putting a crx cam into my d15b7 sol. I know idealy I should get a cam gear, but the cam timing will be a half tooth off or something. I'm not worried about that. Now, I've heard that you have to file the holes to make the distributor go above 19 degrees advanced-which, correct me if I'm wrong, with the right octane gas the motor can take that. Will retarding cam timing allow the ignition timing to go higher? Like if I were to put it all the way to the maxed would it be at like 25 degrees advance instead of 19 degrees and blow my engine? Or will it go down? The reason I want to know is I'm putting the cam in at home and I need to be able to drive it a while to take it to my school, to have the timing checked there.
I don't know, maybe my idea of how this works is wrong.
