Default Block girdle questions.

I am in the middle of piecing together my B17 when I found out I have the wrong ARP main studs. Instead of getting the B16 kit I received and installed the B18C main studs. Now I am finding that the original B17 windage tray will not work with the ARP mains.

The question I have is would this be a good time to install a block girdle? Or would this be a foolish idea?

The machine shop already took the block through the paces and the stock sleeves were already overboared. So I don't think I can run it through an align hone. Would it be safe to install a 3 main girdle without the align hone or am I asking for trouble?

Should I just get an ITR windage tray and finish my build?

Your opinions please.

Just use the stock main bolts and sell the main studs. You need to machine the caps to use a girdle. In my opinion you don't need the studs or girdle.

Care to expand why I will not need the studs or the girdle?

Will I be safe if I am only trying for 200WHP?

The oem main bolts and stock caps are not a weak spot in a Honda b series.Your trying to fix a problem that doesn't exist. If I was using a gsr block I wouldn't remove the girdle but with an ls or b16/17 i wouldn't add one.

Thank you sir for clearing that up. I didn't think that with such a good R/S ratio of the B17 that vibration would be an issue.

Now, would it be prudent to purchase new set of main bolts?

No need for main studs or a girdle unless your making over 600 hp..All the studs and girdle are going to do is support the movement from the motor that turning the rpms that they do..With 200hp keep it stock, people do fine that way with 500hp...

What kinda of machining is required for main studs and a girdle? I have a sleeved block and plan to push it to every bit of 600whp and up to 9k rpm, and main studs and a girdle on my list as a priority for safety...

The caps need to be machined to fit the girdle.A light align hone will finish it up.

most companies require you to get gsr main caps for their girdles. if you went that route you would definetly have to get an align bore/hone. i made my own girdle for a b18a to use with the b18a main caps i just had to drill and ream the caps to except dowels. but now i have to make my oil pan deeper, extend my oil pickup tube and make/modify my windage tray. prolly more trouble than its worth but im halfway there so i might as well keep goin.
