Default bleeding the brakes question!!

I changed the brakes yesterday and after bleeding them, the brake will have to sit on the floor before the car stops. Do I need to re-bleed the brakes? any ideas? if your wondering when the car is off it becomes difficult to pump the brake, but when the car is running it is all mushy and does not become firm. Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you have air in the lines. (Air is compressable = smushy brakes)

Purchase a set of Speed Bleeders. They will immensely simplify the process.
S&M Racin's site has the product #'s you will need.

The pump is not activated when the car is off, that's why it's so hard.

Speed Bleeders should be considered manditory. They make the job so much easier.

Speed Bleeders are threaded check (one way) valves. Search for their web site.
You can use them to drain any pressurized fluid (brakes / clutch).

Are you saying I need to bleed the brakes while the car is on? I have never tried or heard of this. Let me know if I should try this while the car is on. Thanks again fella's.

you should have the car on while bleeding the brakes...for me it gives better results...what i do is bleed it first with the car off about three rounds then turn the car on and bleed it another 2, make sure you are bleeding them in the right order too....i recent got rear disc brakes for my 98 lx and decided to flush the whole system and put in new fluid since i havent done that since i got the car, now brakes are better than ever.

you need to do it with a second person unless you have a speed bleeder or somthing to rig the brakes.

reason:

open bleeder
press pdeal
close bleeder
release pedal

thats the correct way. if you release the pedal while the bleeder is open it could suck air right back into the system.
