Default Bearing sizing after Align bore ? engine builders chime in.

Getting ready to assemble a GE sleeved block, after the sleeve process it was align bored.

After the align bore... how does one go about OEM honda bearing sizing ? i normally like to use OEM gsr bearings. sizing them by the code on block and crank, then rechecking with plastigaue and other various measuring tools. the main sizing by the block/crank code though.

now that the mains have been cut, and align bored... i should not go by the code on the block correct ?

when align bored, are blocks machined to the same size ? as in mains 1-5 should all be the same exact size.

is there a chart or anything listing factory bearing color to metric size ?

so i can measure the crank. measure the mains. and then just size the bearing based on a measurement converted to color (i dont think there are bearing thickness sizes in helms)

hopefully this makes sense.

maybe someone reading this could help. id just like to know the best way to size bearings in a align-bored block if i were to want to use honda oem bearings.

Thanks alot guys!

Just put in whatever bearings you had before, assuming they arent trashed. Plastigauge it then size your new bearings accordingly.

dont have old bearings to go off. also. even if i did it this way...still i dont know what colors = what sizes.

totally understand what your saying though...
with old bearing & plastigauge you would get reading X.
say i wanted Y more clearence.
Use new bearing Y thicker to get Y + X = coreect size

thanks for your input..

still would need to find what colors = what thickness(size) in mm(in).
man i need sleep...lol

is this info in the helms. maybe it is. i dont have my book with me.

that would make this much esier huh. ill have to check that out tomarrow.

EDIT:

wow. totally missed that link. thanks alot man. exactly what i was looking for
tod you i needed sleep. lol

Ok well in your case buy a set of ACLs because you can get a whole set cheaper than OEMs. Youll prob want to buy a set of the oversized ACLs because you said you had an align bore. Try to find out how much they bored out. This way you can start with a bearing that may closely match the size your going to need so you dont have to throw them out after your done plastigauging the mains.

any other input ?

shouldn't be oversized. they cut the caps, then remachine to a factory size bore.
as for the size ... im going to have to get that information from GE. all 5 should be same i belive.

yeah you wont need oversized if u got a good machine shop. After an align bore i went with the color coded bearings the block and crank called for and everyhting was perfect.

Then its obvious you didnt need align bores as no material was removed.

As noted here

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=715505

Measure the bore - measure the crank = clearance no bearing

(Clearance no bearing - wanted oil clearance) divided by 2 = bearing thickness from chart above.

Simple as that, do not go by the block numbers if align bored.
