B20b head on GSR BLock!! WILL THIS WORK???
Ok soo i have a question.. which by the topis reads.. soo i bought a motor b20b.. as it turns out the block of the b20b is no good.. but the head of the b20b is good.. i have a spare GSR block.. will the B20b head work with a GSR Block???? will its run fine? and wat has to be done in order to make sure the motor runs fine??? PLEASE REPLY A.S.A.P!!!!
You would be building an LS. The only thing a GSR block would be good for is withstanding the higher revs needed for VTEC, but with a non-vtec head, you took that out of the equation. Just sell the head, get a B16 or GSR head and do it right.
It will run. It will be about as strong or a bit stronger than an LS motor. Nothing more.

It would technically work but I think you would have to plug the hole in the block that feeds oil to the vtec solenoid. You would also have to do something with the dowel pins.

It would work but not very well. The b20 head has a 84mm chamber and the gsr block has an 81mm bore so the compression would be way down w/o changing the pistons, besides the fact that the over hanginging bore would cause hot spots and might detonate.

ok i see that everyone has there own opnion.. but i just wanted to know if this swap wood work.. i know its pointless.. but i have alomost no other choice.. im tight on the money.. because i spent most of it on parts for rebuilding a B20B not a GSR... but when i took the motor apart the bottom end was no good to me.. and like i said i happen to have a spare GSR block.. soo i wanted to know if this were possible.. im not to crazy for the whole VTEC thing... soo as long as it were to run fine!!!!!

Not completely true. Almost all B20 heads have a normal 81mm CC, the uber rare P8R head from the B20 has the 84mm CC.

It could work but it would be a waste of time now if u were telling us that you were putting the gsr head on that b20 block then u would be in buisness.
are you making the worst of both worlds motor?
i am not sure if it will work but most people use the total oppisite (gsr head and crv block)
i am pretty sure with a lil finagling it will work but the power wont be woth the effort

Yes, it will work. Others have asked this same question before and received the same tired old responses "Why would you do that?", "You're an idiot". I had a bunch of B16 blocks and LS heads, LS/VTEC leftovers. I tried it, it worked, it kinda feels like a dx motor with an ex tranmission. I only ran it for two days before the copper sprayed used head gasket started leaking oil. If you need a car, your stock motor is already chillin in the 7Eleven dumpster, and this is all you've got, Reverse LS/VTEC is the way to go.
