Default B20 vtec problems

I just recentley traded for a b20 vtec ef9. Supposidley all i needed to do was wire her and go. Well i had a custom harness made and ordered the obd0-1 conversion for my ecu. Heres my motors layout: b16 tranny, b20z2 block, gsr vtec shaved head, msd external coil with cap and ignition control, and she has other goodies but not worth mentioning for the problem. Well i had a harness made for her which plugged right in no problems. When i first tried to start her she would back fire out of the intake, but shes in perfect time and getting spark through all plugs and u can even see it through the msd cap. Im getting fuel through my fuel rail. Plug in obd0 ecu and it reads code 10, which i dont think thats really any concern to why she aint starting. I heard from several people that alarms will sometimes prevent motors from starting and its been acting hay wire when grounded and everything so i snipped it out. Well i just tried to start her, most of the time she just clicks and doesnt try to start, no more backfire through intake, but now my aftermarket tach moves after the clicking and it didnt do that before. Im thinking about trying it without msd to see how that works but idk wut i should do. So if anyone could help me trouble shoot or point me in the right direction i would highly appreciate it.

if you've got an aftermarket crank pulley i'd put the stock one back on and check the timing. aftermarket companies have been known to mess up the timing marks.

cap and rotor would be my next on the list. i destroyed mine once and didn't know it. i had fuel and spark and could run the motor on 3 cyclinders but not 4. pulled my cap off and the rotor came out in pieces.

if you've got fuel and spark and it's all in time there is no reason it shouldn't run. unless something is very wrong with the motor itself. sorry, but without seeing it it's hard to say.

no theres no aftermarket crank pully on her. I was thinkin because of the shaved head would that affect the timing?? And i was wondering should i try to start her w/o msd hook up to see what she does afterwords.

oops i missed shaved head part earlier. yeah, if you decked enough of it it will throw timing off a bit. i don't remember off the top of my head how much per .001. how much was taken off?

im not exactly sure how much is, the kid that i got it from said it was done in mexico before he got it, but even if the timing was retarded she should still start.

to be honest that sounds like your plug wires are mixed up.... Thats of coures if you initial timing is right... And I also believe that shaved heads will not throw off tour timing that much to cause back pressure through your intake.... unless you set the timing WAAYYY OFF... I would also make sure your battery is good and then resort to a dizzy... Good luck...
