what should i replace if i do?
rings
rod / main bearings
gaskets (duh)
what else?
experienced peeps give me some pointers -- this is my first
rebuild and i don't want to get involved and find out i have to wait 2 months to special order a
$5 piece
thanks,
josh

Forged pistons, rods, bearings, and if you plan on boostin a lot have the block resleeved. My friend has a GSR bored .25 over with 9.0:1 JE's, rods (I'm not sure what brand), Portflow head, B16A cams, Sprockets, RC 440 injectors, Hondata 4b, and a Revhard T3/T04E hybrid turbo. The thing boosts hella crazy. It's in a 97 HX and should be pulling low 12's to high 11's this saturday. It's gonna be fun.

obviously you are gonna have to replace the rings. With 85K you are gonna have to replace all the bearings also. go ahead and replace the timing belt and prolly headgasket too. It wont be too cheap, but better that risking something breaking.
Where are you getting your stuff done at? I got mine done at Pattersons and they do some good work, for pretty cheap too.

hey thanks for the input (bob ross)
i'm actually out-of-state right now
so i'll be doing most of the build myself
(have actually heard of Pattersons though)
i'm thinking oil pump and water pump also?

Just get some nice engine building tools like torque wrench ready, assembly lube, ring compressor, engine stand, Hondabond, plastigauge, etc.
Also rods go in a certain way... That you can take care of when you are doing the assembly.
Make sure all parts are absolutely clean and dust/particle free and you should be set.

don't forget...HELMS MANUAL, A GOOD MACHINIST, AND PATIENCE...the helms manual will thoroughly explain all the necesities and what should be replaced/re-used, ie. torque sequences, torque settings, washers, gaskets, etc...balance it, make sure all your clearances are PEFECT, and don't cut corners with time or $.

no need to replace the water or oil pump unless they were broke before hand.
Be careful getting everything back on right, and definately get a Helms. Hondabond is the **** too
