Default b16a1 ENGINE KNOCK! HELP! (sound clip inside)

Car: 1991 Civic DX
Engine: B16A/ Y1 Tranny
ECU: unsure
Distributor: recently (replaced by Honda)
Plugs: less than 10,000k
Alternator: New (replaced by Honda)
T-belt: brand new (replaced by Honda)
Rad: brand new (replaced by Honda)
Oil: replaced less than 1000km's ago

I have had bad LMA's for about 3 months, and just have not had the cash to replace them (sounds like a little tick tick tick tick tick). But I was supposed to do it this week, I finally got some money.

Now, my engine is making this knocking sound all the time (cold or warmed up). It sounds like someone is knocking with their knuckle on the spark plug cover! I could probably take a sound clip, and post it if needed. Sounds like its coming from the top of the motor, and the 'knock' goes with the RPM of the motor as well, and is VERY noticible.

But I really need help... I don't want my little car to die! What could be wrong? I'm no mechanic at all, so I want to have some knowledge before I take it somewhere.

sounds stupid, but check if you have a leak in the header flange.

Could be your valves! What kind of oil are you running?

I had the same problem and all it was, the spark plugs were loose. Sounds lame but true.

Check and make sure the spark plugs are torqued, check the clearance for your valves...eg valve lashing.

Get a feeler gauge and check the clearances between the cam lobe and the rocker arms. .006 for the exhaust, and .007 for the intake.

i must agree, that sounds like a ignition noise to me. sounds like a wire is loose and grounding to the head (spark plug hole tube) or compression like a loose spark plug.

pull your plug wires, check for soot usually white, that is tell tale evidence of arching.

good luck

LOL! I checked right away.. guess what it was. Spark plug was loose and was hitting the spark club cover.

(btw... sorry for responding like a month later)
