Default B16a,B18b, or D16

O.k., I want the fastest and cheapest setup, to put in a crx. What is my best choice. LS turbo with a stock bottom end. B16a turbo with a stock bottom end, or put a sohc vtec head on a crx si motor, and build the bottom end and boost more.

fastest and cheapest depends on how mechanically incluned you are and how well you can tune

b16a turbo can beat a b18b turbo
b18b turbo can beat a b16a turbo
tuned d16 can beat crazy **** it shouldnt be able to beat

built, tuned and boostd D16 will be the easiest to setup and most fun on the street; i say most fun on te street cuz you will be so poor from building and boosting the dohc's that you will not be able to afford gas, in turn, you wont be able to drive, and that is no fun...

if you go the D16 route, I'd spend the good money on a good manifold and turbo setup. I wouldnt do the Junkyard way on those parts, those are what will make the diff from Fast to FASTER. We had TO4B on a drag manifold and Starion intercooler setup back in 1996 on a CRX Si. at 9lbs it hit a 13.00 on a stock motor with 310injectors.

Yes Ryan, I agree with you, I just wanted to see what other people thought. Do you think I could do the whole car for under $5000. It would have to be one of the cheapest hondas ever built that was actually fast. I think it would surprise alot of people. How much would a nice manifold, turbo, and hondata cost?

Unless you upgrade to a 1992+ ECU, forget the Hondata. With the sole exception of the PR3/PW0 B16A ECUs, Hondata does not do pre-1992 ECUs.

My friend's B16A CRX ran 13.52@101 with MT 20x6x14 slicks... That was a totally stock motor... He only had an intake and 2.5" exhaust and the car weighed 2060 full interior with him in it.... Not bad... If you are not looking for a full out motor then why not just boost a B16 on like 6lbs... My friend's internally stock B16 in his EK on 7lbs. ran 12.8@106... The CRX should be a lot faster.....
