89 Civic LX auto. It shifts kinda strange anyway,but I have never really driven an auto so it might jsut be right. When I floored it in 1st gear the other day it went to the rev limiter and bounced off it a few times, but never shifted.

Any ideas what to check?

Oah man A/T's SUUCCKK. It could be a MILLION things. Get a Helms manual or take it to Lee Myles.
Try changing the tranny fluid and filter 1st.
And, when you "FLOOR" A/T's the immediately "down-shift", BEFORE the "upshift".

I just re-read the topic.
I agree with the above.
Make SURE you are in D3 or D4, whichever your car has.
If you leave it in "1st" it will NOT shift out of 1st gear.

 

Im not a car newbie The car was in D4..just strange how it doesnt shift. Going to drain tranny this coming week and see what happens.

Any how-tos on a auto to manual swap?

I'm just starting an A/T to 5sp swap. I'd say try to search in archived topics.
It seems to be quite a task. Get as much info as you can before starting though.
