Adj. Valves after Type R install?
I may install some Type R cams on my b16 myself. If I do I don't feel comfortable enough to adjust the valves so I will most likely take it to honda and have them do it. Question is can I drive about 20 miles on the cams without adjusting them? I am keeping stock redline right now so i'm keeping stock springs and retainers.
Thanks

You're going to swap the cams on but don't feel comfortable doing the valve adjustment? Really, it's easy- ALOT easier than a cam swap. All you need is a feeler gauge, tappet and a torque wrench.
And from what I've seen is you can't do much worse than the dealer. Hey, it's not their car, they want to get it done fast and out of there. It's your car so you will probably spend more time on it to get it perfect. That's the way I am anyways.
adjusting valves is easier than installing cams any day.

BUT... as a rule of thumb, valve adjustments are best done when the engine is cold, not warm or hot....because metal expands when heated up. You should really learn how to do a valve adjustment all on your own...its not hard at all.....well it is a little on your lower back, heh, from leaning over the engine for period of time.

I guess I should buy the right tools for the job and try it myself. My brother is getting new cams for his B16 CRX so we can save a few bucks doing it ourselves. Plus if we can swap the motor then a valve job should be easy enough
Buy the right tools? All you need is a 10mm socket and ratchet, a slotted screwdriver, an 8mm wrench and the feeler guages. If you don't have any of the tools it would probably cost you $20 for all of them at Pep Boys or Sears, and they will come in handy later anyways.
I have seen the feeler gauge set at PepBoys for $3.99. 8mm wrench a couple bucks and the screwdriver a couple bucks. I would get Craftsman wrench and screwdriver, that way they will last you.
I have the tools it's just people are saying it's hard to do with a normal feeler guage and with regular sockets. If it can be done easy with regular tools then i'm ok, but i'm not gonna do it the hard way. I'll just buy the special tools to do it right.
