Default .25 os piston break in

Got the block fresh from the machine shop. But he never told me about the break in period. It was bored and honed for ITR .25 os piston and rings. What is the estimated time for the break in period to end?

Make sure you change the oil after 500 miles. And repeat again after another 500. Then you are ready to go.

1000 miles? Thats really taking it safe, When you buy a new gsr or type R or perhaps any new car, do they tell you to break it in for 1000 miles? So what makes your engine so much differnt? eric

1000 miles is perfect another thing that i do is when you started up for the first time let the engine reach normal temperature, once you do that change the oil again,so you will wash any posible particle or material you didn't see during the build up,do it and you will see, just 10.00 dollars more wont hurt

Is it a good thing to go ahead and run the synthetic oil for the first 500 miles?

I have always heard and done this. Use 30W non-detergent oil at first. I think Autozone has it. Take it easy for 400 miles, then change to what ever you are going to use and you are good to go. Has always worked for me. Rings have seated no problem.

Thanks, J

I always run valvoline 5-30 NON synthetic for 500, and change the oil. NEVER run the car on the highway at idle speeds while break in. run it around town, and don't redline it. Change the oil at 500, and then again at 1000. After 500 run it pretty hard. The valves actually seat after the first 30 miles, but it is always good to be easy on it for a while. Almost all race teams run their motors 110% right out of the box. There is always someone who will debate either way!

Good luck!

Don't use Synthetic until the 3rd oil change @ around 1500-3000 miles.
