Default ~Piston Installation~ <-- Do it Yourself Job?

A friend of mine burned up his piston rings and a different friend and I think we could save him some money by doing the job for him. New pistons would be installed on a 99 GSR-- and I just recently did a timing belt, oil pump, and water pump installation on my 94 GSR.... I know getting down to the oil pump won't be difficult. So tell me-- is there really anything I should be worried about? Anything crazy about dealing with the crank shaft? Let me know what you guys think... and oh yea-- how much more time is involved in the job once I've gotten all the way down to pulling the oil pump?

Thanks in Advance,
Zack

there's nothing really crazy about it. pull the head off, drop the oil pan, take the oil pump assy. off, take the rod bolts off and then push the pistons through the top. the only part that i think is difficult is lying on my back working under the car. i don't have a car lift, and i have a bad back. all that bending realling puts a strain on my back.

you will need to hone the block for the new rings or else its gonna smoke. If the damage was bad enough to "burn" up the rings like you said,id suggest taking the whole block out, getting oversized pistons, and have a machine shop hone the sleeves to size.Do you guys have a helms???

yea like aeolus said, its better 2 get it hone but besides that it shouldnt post a big threat. and you would probaly need 2 get the pistons pressed onto the connecting rods unless the pistons you got is already on the rods.

pull the block and take it to a machine shop to have them hone it out and reassemble it. you will be glad you did in the long run.
