question
The bump-stop is positioned around the shock shaft, between the upper mount and the shock body. Bump-stops are to protect the internals of your shock from damage when it is compressed particularly hard. They are usually some semi-soft material like rubber and have their own spring rate, and you want to keep off them as much as possible but they do factor into the overall spring rate of the suspension, as well as providing the valuable function of protection.
