Before the wastegate, it may cause you to over boost, if the exhaust gasses don't get to the wastegate, it will not open at the right time.
Not to mention that your wastegate may also fall off..

You should make a brace for the wastegate. My friend had the same problem with his wastegate breaking off (HKS WASTEGATE).

?

Umm, wouldn't it be the other way around. The turbo could suffer from slower spool times because of the exhaust leak. The wastegate opens by referencing boost pressure, not exhaust gas pressure.

Possibly, or just slower spool up. It's according to the size of the crack.

so then whats then general opinion here, I see one person saying it would cause over boosting and one saying otherwise?

obviously it should be fixed but curious what the resulting situation with building boost would be.

I'm right, obviously

Think about it...the wastegate relieves exhaust pressure off of the turbine in order to control boost pressure by maintaining the compressor's speed. If there is a crack before the wastegate, then excess exhaust is being relieved and not being used to spin the turbine and in turn the compressor. Just imagine if the wastegate came completely off...I'm thinking that overboosting wouldn't be a problem there.
