Default Sony cdx-m8800 cd/mp3 player

I was looking at getting a Sony cdx-m8800 for my 03 civic. Has anyone heard of anything bad about this unit?

i personally don't like sony. and that deck doesn't have a detachable faceplate, and when its closed it hella shinny and noticable. another thing is that is doesn't have the preset buttons on the deck itself.

I don't like Sony either and have heard nothing but bad things about them. Even people I know that own and work at places that sell them have told me to stay away from the. They sound like crap and sound washed out to me and many others have said the same thing compared to other brands and they tend to break fairly fast. I would look at Pioneer, JVC Aresonal, Alpine and brands like that.

funny thing is.. my buddy who owns his own audio place, gets more returned pioneers and jvc's than he does sony....

i work at best buy in car audio and the sonys don't suck all that bad.... its just that you're paying more for the name rather than the actual performance of the deck. JVC's kinda suck, i'd rather get a sony over a JVC, but i'd still get a pioneer or alpine over any sony any day, even their mobile es.

I don't know about the regular JVC's but I have a high end JVC Aresonal which is JVC's high end line and it is way better than the Alpine I have and everyone swears by the Alpines. Maybe you guys have had good luck with Sony but I haven't and many others I know havent. A fried put a Sony in her old Camry that she uses to keep the miles low on her new one and the stock cd player died on the old one so she put the Sony in. It sounds like crap and you couldn't tell a difference between the sound quality with it and the stock one yet with my JVC you could tell a huge difference it sounded so much cleaner. She will admin that it sounds washed out. I have also heard many others including a guy that worked at a local car audio store in NC. I was in there with another guy that was buying a Dvd player thing that replaces the dome light in his Suburban and was looking at some Sony speakers becasue they had a good price on them and I wasn't all that impressed with the sound but I have hear worse but when I said something about them the guy there was like have you heard them I was like yeah why. He went what did you think did you think they sounded good? I said I think they sound ok he was like I think they sound like crap. He said he had been interested in car audio for like 15 years or something and he wouldn't recomend them because he thought they sounded horrible. Then another guy I have met online owns a shop and says he is always getting ones in that are broken that he has to send back and he has a JVC Aresonal also and says he likes it Alpine and Eclipse the best but that Sony's are horrible. I have read a lot of other reviews about them that say the don't last long and I had a cd changer from them that broke along with a CD changer that was in my grandparents car and uncles car. They all died before I thought they should. I have had really bad luck with there home stuff also. I used to like there stuff and bought a laptop from them and some other stuff and it didnt last more than a year and a half. There new stuff sucks. No one I know that owns or works at shops reccomends them because they say the don't sound clear and they seem to fail prematurely. Why is it you like them and not JVC? I would get a JVC Aresonal (I don't know about regular JVC's though), Alpine, Pioneer (don't personally have one but have heard lots of good things about them), or Eclipse (again dont own one but have heard nothing but good things about them). I love my JVC and I like my Alpine ok. The Alpine is great but I don't understand why everyone thinks they are the best because honestly my JVC blows that thing out of the water. They both are very nice but the JVC seems to do everything the Alpine does plus more like have the AUX input and stuff like that.

On the other hand while I may not like my Alpine HU as well as I like my JVC I think my Alpine speakers are awesome.

IMO anyone who knows anything bout HU's knows sony isnt worth the money.. some of the older HUs are ok-decent i imagine.. most people on h-t are somewhat pioneer, alpine, and maybe eclipse ******.(im an alpine guy) ..some even say those brands are overpriced and overrated which is fine. im happy with my alpine and all my previous alpine's (5) and changers(3).
disappointed with my previous sonys (2) and changers (2) 1000watt amp (1) 6 x9 (1)

I feel that i have had enough experience with sony thats for sure.

I would have to say my Alpine is the second best HU I have ever had. I also really liked a friends but he sold it in his car to the dealer so he doesn't have it anymore. In no way am I saying I dont like them I just liked my JVC better thats all. Alpine is my second favorite brand. I just don't understand why everyone reccomends them over others.

The older sony ES is one of the best decks you can get for the car. you sure you'd rather have an alpine?
