After blown my head gasket due to turbo, three of the head bolts was loose (around the number one cylinder). Took my head to the machine shop getting it resurf, compression check, and getting new head gasket. Now on the installation, torque the head down I notice the three bolts around the #1 cylinder is stripping. I check the bolts (seeing pieces of metal around the threads). The block might be stripped. Is there any way I can fix the thread on the block? help me out guys

 

you have to drill the block and heli coil it.

 

use a time sert and insert it into the block similar to a heli coil but not as good.

 

can I do it myself. Or I have to bring it to the machine shop. what is a heli coil? where can I get one at? how much

what kind of motor do you have and what kind of head bolts are you using?reason i'm asking is cause i have seen several people strip out their ls and gsr blocks by using b16 head bolts(slightly shorter than gsr)...if you are using this setup change it when you get your block fixed otherwise it will strip out again in a little while

u can do it yourself, but the timesert kit to do it properly is 300 bux, helicoil is a piece of ****, i had one pull on me and had the same problems u do right now.

find a machine shop in your area that uses timeserts, shouldnt cost more than 50 per hole

timeserts should work well. The kit for a b-series is $300 + shipping from them. I got my custom d-series timeserts kit for $80 from them. I never got to use it though b/c part of the block cracked and broke when i drilled it out.

A friend of mine sent his out to a machine shop had all the holes threaded to the nascar sized arp headstuds. He also had to drill out the holes in the head alittle bigger, but he is having no problems with his engine now. And its stronger than before.

find a machine shop local to you that uses them, much cheaper than gettin the kit, they usually charge ~20 bux a hole or so

 

im havin the same prob with one hole in my ls block on the exhaust side....one hole wen i put the bolt in it drops lower then the rest?...im using gsr studs and head....so i dunno maybe the thread is jacked? do i have to use ls bolts??.....machine shop time....

 

This concern has been a problem with a lot of aluminum blocks. Honda has a Time-Sert Thread repair kit made especially for this concern. The Head Bolt M11x1.5 thread repair kit (P/N TFC7111) is what you will need to get things handled. For more info visit http://www.timesert.com/html/honda.html

yes but are those kits the same as the head bolt kits??? remember the threads are down in the block a good 50mm..need long tools.

im running these too. 1/2 inch studs. im running a used block from a parts car i bought...and when i pulled it apart i found one of the holes was sketchy so i just did 1/2 inch in all of them.

Why would you just give up over one blown headgasket...which is like $130 max to fix? If it's not tuned well enough then get it tuned better and fixed the head gasket. You have to pay to play.

yes i need that kit but they have it in 11mm x1.50. d series are 10mm x 1.25.

i have a d series. its 10mm x 1.25 i dont see a kit for that.. shitty

 

Oh, I thought you were referring to a B-series Block. Try to call the Thread Kits Co. I know the have a kit for a D-series too. I believe it's cheaper too. Best of luck
