Fast idle valve problem on a b18c eg???
Ok, lately I've been having some problems with a surging idle. I came to the conclusion that it was the IACV, so I replaced that and it still does it!! My car is ideling very quickly between 1000rpm-1400rpm. Whenever the a/c kicks on, it drops to about 900rpm. The only other thing that I think it could be is the Fast Idle Thermo Valve. Does this sound right? I've searched and read 2 pages of posts on this topic and im pretty sure thats what it is, only I couldnt find ANYTHING that says where it is located on a GSR motor. Can anyone show me a picture of where I can find this on a gsr motor and tell me exactly how many bolts/screws that need to be undone to take this thing off? Thanks in advance for everyone help
EDIT 09/24/04
Ok i just brought this thread back up from the dead because I am ready to bypass this thing and want some pointers/suggestions
here is a link to a pic of an FITV on ebay (its the best pic i could find)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...sting
if i just plug those three holes with jb weld, but keep the coolant line attatched (so i dont have to reroute the line) would that completely bypass it or no?

it's on the bottom of the throttle body. it has a small coolant line running to it. my friends civic was doing the same thing so we took out his fast idle and it fixed the problem
k ill take a look at it, but if you have any pics id appreciate that too as well. thanks! oh and how many screws/bolts should there be?

are you sure you dont have a vac leak anywhere? Get some throtle plate or carb cleaner and spray over the vac lines to see if the engine rpms drop.
one place you probably didnt spray was the intake manifold gasket... We just had a tech at work "spray everywhere" and went on replacing a bunch of **** before realizing the gasket was bad. He ended up going on vacation and i had the joy of replacing an intake gasket on a prelude... no fun.
ok i have no gasket leak either so it must be the fitv....i started to take off what i think is the fitv from the throttle body and disconnected the coolant hose but the coolant was leaking NON - stop, draining the entire radiator..... Is this normal????? I remember when I took off the IACV I only lost a little fluid and then it stopped, but this thing just flows and flows......Did I unplug the right thing? I was taking the only thing off that is located below the throttle body, which everyone is tellin me is the FITV.
ok i took the valve off and the thing inside that is supposed to be screwed down in there was loose. I cleaned off everything with carb cleaner, screwed it back in and now it is better than it was before, but its still not fixed..... Should i just buy a new one? OR is there anyway I can just bypass the whole stupid thing with a JB weld? if so, what do i have to do to bypass it?
*edit i decided to by pass it

Bumping, cause I'm curious how you found out about "that thing" and if you could tell us how the bypass went, that'd be awesome. My idle goes up and down and drives me crazy, I plugged the top hole in my TB (there are 2, one at like 8 o-clock and one at 10 o-clock, but my intake isn't stock) and it made the erratic part go away, so I think it's this fast idle thing.
