Default Don't forget to nut and bolt your cars!!

As some SE region guys know I bent valves at RA back in June due to a misshift. In an effort to prevent this in the future I decided to swap my stock shifter back in (I bought the car with a DC short shifter) and install some ES shifter bushings. So tonight I crawl under the car and remove the shifter extension rod where it connects to the tranny so I can install the ES bushing. Remove the heat shield and hmm... that is funny. The washers around the extension bushing are just rattling around. Put my gear wrench on the bolt that attaches the rod to the tranny and hmm... it sure turns easy. Strange. Put two fingers on the bolt, turn a half turn counter clockwise and it comes out. Son of a bitch. Granted, that might have had nothing to do with misshift but it can't help. That bolt probably never got tightened after an emergency clutch swap at Beaver Run last year. Might have saved a lot of money if I had checked that bolt while nut and bolting my car. Just did not think about it. Maybe someone else can learn from my stupidity.

Chris

Or every weekend for those of us who virtually rebuild half of the car in between each race.
