Default need help on cv boot....pppllllleeeasseeeeee (86 acccord lxi)

k im still working on my moms 86 accord lxi, finally got the damn alternator in, and since i had to take the axle off for the alternator to come out i notice the outer cv boot ripped (damn more work), now the question is how do i put the new one on and take the old boot out, i just cant figure it out. it looks like the outer shaft thing with the little ***** slide off but its not doing it. so please i need help.

thanks for the the guys who gave me tips to take out the alternator, really helpful.

i think it would be cheaper to buy remanufactured axles, its only 50-60 bucks each when a new cv boot kit still costs 25 each.

U need to dissemble the joint to install new boots.

If u ripped the outer boot, you would have to take out the inner boot to install new outter boot. Taking out the inner boot to install outer boot would require dissembly of the inner cv joint.

okay got the joint off, now does anyone know what happens if i dont reinstall the snapring back on the shaft?
i figure the joint will not go nowhere since its connected to the shaft with splines and then its bolted tight with the axle not. if i am wrong please someone inform me.

The DO move, and you DO need the snap rings, or else the axle will come out of the transmission and you'll eventually ruin your tranny or loose all your fluid and ruin your tranny

There actually will be a very small gap between the axle and the transmission. But just a small gap.

By the way it is cheaper and a lot less of a headache to just get a rebuilt axle and put it in. Not to mention a lot quicker.
