New Axles: Does that include a CV boot/joint?
CV axels and CV joints are the same thing. Don't let a dealer tell you that they are two different things and overcharge you. I've had it happen to me, and I had to quickly let them know that I was on to their scam. The CV boot, is the rubber boot that houses the CV axel/joint. When you replace the axels, you will usually have to have the boot replaced as well.
Usually the way that CV axels go bad is 1) the boot will tear for whatever reason. After the boot tears, dirt, grit, and whatever else can get into the boot and harm the CV axel and cause it to wear out. The grease that is in the CV boot that helps to lubricate the axel will also come out when the boot is torn.
If you catch a torn boot early enough, you will only need to replace the torn boot and get new grease for the axel. However, if you here clicking and popping from the front of the car around turns, and the boot is torn, it is probably too late. You would then have to get everything replaced.
There is a trusted mechanic that I go to in Charlotte, N.C. (where I live) called Compact Car Service (Honda-Acura Specialists). They gave me a price on the CV axel and boot replacement when mine went out on my EG. (I traded in the car though, so I never got it fixed.) However, for the CV axel, the boot and labor, they were charging about $210 per axel. This is just to give you an idea of how much it might cost.
