Default damned sqeaking noises

hey H-T'ites.

Right now, I have 2 seperate sqeaking issues going on with my car and wanted to chat about them, throw them out there, get them off my chest sort of thing.

One I know is directly related to me changing out my water pump this past weekend. On initial start up, there is a high pitch squeaking sound which I know is coming from my belts. However, the belts are less than a year old, and when I put them back on, the tension on them is what I would call medium. It gives a little but not too much.

I was wondering when belts normally squeak, is it because they are too tight or too loose??? both? I guess I just need to start adjusting them and see what happens.

====

The second squeaking problem has been going on for a couple of months now, which now that I think about it may have something to do with my water pump too.

During most (but not all) turns to the right, there is a high pitch squeaking sound that will last pretty much throughout the turn. It does it with and without the brakes on. And when I brake normally, there is no sound.

I read an archived post about it maybe being the power steering pulley but my car has never had power steering.

But again, its been going on for a couple of months and I would bet my water pump may have been leaking that long before I discovered it, so I suppose it's possible that the wetness may be a factor in this cursed problem.

Any ideas as to what it could be causing the squeak during turning though??

thanks for the effort in reading this post and typing any kind of response. I know we are all busy and it sucks to waste time on stupid **** like this.

Thanks again.

i actually had several problems with my water pump when i had it inspected and replaced.

Turned out that two of the water pumps that were replaced were defective. Luckily the guy who worked on it for me replaced it 3 times free of charge due to a warranty on the service.

he also noted he wasn't sure what was going on, but i had a high-pitch squeaking/whistle at idle...extremely annoying

are you thinking my start up squeaking could have something to with the actual water pump itself? I was told my water pump was bad so I changed it out. But there wasn't anything wrong with it actually, so I took the old water pump and stored it in a container full of oil to keep everything good.

So when the new pump went bad, I just replaced it with the old one after I cleaned it up.

hmmmmm....what is going on under that hood?
