engine swap, which to choose?
hey fellas
newbie to honda tech. i own a 89 crx si and am lookin at 2 engine choices. either the jdm dohc zc or the d16z6. im using this as a daily driver. which engine would be a better choice (taking price, reliability, installation etc)?? what are some pros and cons about each engine as well??
any help will be appreciated

Z6. It makes almost the same power, it's cheaper, more plentiful, more aftermarket support, and an easier swap. Unless you just want that JDM bling, yO!
i myself would take the DOHC ZC motor never liked ANY of the honda 1 cammers yea its harder to get parts for but very nice motor i'll say
I'd have to say go DOHC ZC..and appriciate the non-vtec power..130 hp isn't too bad and if my memory serves me correct the z6 is about the same on a level of power.
I'm sure there is more performance parts for the z6, but then again if you look hard enough and read up on http://www.homemadeturbo.com you'll hear alot of cool stuff about the DOHC ZC engine. Then after you get tired of the DOHC ZC engine and you have more money you can go up from there like i plan too.
My plan is to swap in a DOHC ZC in to my CRX, and then after it starts to feel kinda slow and/or i have the money i'll put in a B18c5 or a B16B (bold on the "b") and make it supercharged.
Either way welcome to Honda-Tech

I say z6 cause the work is easy and cheap and the aftermarket is large. He will have fun with it for longer than the ZC therefore he wont want to swap it as soon.

Price and reliability are about the same...... the Z6 makes 125hp/106lb-ft torque the dohc zc makes 130hp/108lb-ft torque so power is about the same. However I think installation wise the dohc zc is easier, with the Z6 your best bet is OBD1 conversion with the stock ecu. I really dont think it would ever run right with a vtec switch or vafc because of the ignition maps.
but one thing about the dohc zc is parts....being as that its a JDM engine parts are alot harder to find i have heard. bu thtis should help alot...
